Homeschooling Through the Years
Homeschooling has been a form of education for centuries. Originally, it was one of the only forms of education. People were instructed at home by family members on how to maintain a household, keep a farm productive, and many other things that contributed to their livelihood. Until about 200 years ago, most women were still homeschooled because it was believed they were too weak for any other form of education.
Over the years, homeschooling has changed substantially. Often times it is looked upon as a way for religious people to educate their children in their beliefs and not those of the secular school system. However, this is not the case. Many homeschooling families use this form of education for means other than religion, in fact, some of the families are not even religious.
Some people homeschool because their local education system is poor and they feel that they're children will be better off being educated at home. A large influx of homeschoolers have been seen amongst people with children that suffer from ADHD or other ailments. These people want to provide their children with the attention and discipline that they feel will not be fulfilled in the public school system. Other homeschooling families simply find homeschooling more appealing than public or private schooling.
