Animal Spirit Guides: The Wolf
76Introduction to Wolves
The wolf is one of the most common Animal Spirit Guides. Known for their strength and power, they are often feared by people who do not understand them. Wolves rarely attack unless provoked. Most known wolf attacks on humans have either been from sick wolves or wolves that were being harassed or felt in danger. This being said, wolves should still be shown a great deal of respect and not messed with.
"Many believe that the true test of America's sincerity about protecting the environment will revolve around whether or not the wolf remains protected and is allowed to be reintroduced into areas of the country where it has heretofore been eliminated." - Ted Andrews in his book Animal Speak.
Wolves have a hierarchical system with a male and the female being the leaders. This male and female are referred to as the Alphas, or Alpha Male and Alpha Female. The Alphas are known for mating for life and are known for being very protective and caring of each other and their pups.
Animal experts have witnessed cases in which wolves appeared to be "working" with ravens to spot out food and resources. Ravens are often seen following wolves where they go and indicating to the wolf locations of weak animals for them to prey upon.

Wolf Spirit Guide Meaning
The wolf spirit teaches you to be strong and to know yourself. Having a wolf spirit guide is great for someone who struggles with self-confidence and expression. The wolf spirit teaches us to not be wasteful and to use all of the resources available to us. If you're struggling with money, or courage, or just normal distressing things in your life, call upon the wolf spirit and ask for guidance.
Wolves are known for working with ravens. In your spirit guide search, if you feel drawn to the wolf it would be a good idea to research the raven as well and see if the raven spirit calls to you. It is perfectly acceptable to have more than one animal spirit guide, although most people only have one or one "main" one. If you feel the raven is calling to you as well as the wolf, do not be afraid to embrace it.
The wolf is very family oriented. They are territorial and loyal to their pack and their family. The wolf spirit teaches us to keep our family and the ones we love first and to protect them. This level of territorial-ness and protection can come across as being possessive, however this is not the case. The wolf spirit doesn't teach us to be possessive but rather to keep the ones we love sacred and close and to always protect them. If you are searching for guidance and protection within your family, the wolf spirit would be a great spirit guide to commune with.
The wolf spirit teaches us to take control of our lives and get things done. Always remember to do all of this in harmony with nature and not to harm others. If you need any of the things covered in your life, try to establish a connection with the wolf spirit and ask it for guidance. You can do this through your dreams, in meditation, through spirit walks, or with the help of a Native American Spiritualist or Shaman.

Thanks for an informative Hub. I love my pets but need to pay more attention to the wild. I will try not to be so spooked out by the coyotes I hear at night. Maybe they are trying to be my Spirit Guide?
I have always loved the wolf. I feel they are beautiful creatures with a wonderful sense of love and family. Perhaps I should seek to see if a wolf is my spirit guide.
Boy, I guess that's what's great about Alaska! Wild animals all around me! No wolves tho, at least where I am, some on Big Lake years ago... mostly coyotes and foxes.. good hub... lily
I remember well in my trucking days driving through the northern prairies and northern Ontario. I've seen timber wolves walking as ravens flew beside them, I even saw a huge black raven perch itself on a timber wolf along highway 17 in Northern Ontario, it was quite the site.
So yes, I truly believe they have some communication between the two of them going on. I adore wolves, always have, I feel their strength, loyalty, leadership and fearlessness. I have a lot of respect for them and give them plenty of space when I have come across them in the woods. Thank you for sharing this information, very helpful and interesting.
Danielle, LOVED this hub. The wolf is one of my favorite animals/entities. I wish I could have one to keep me company but my town will not allow animals except domestic dogs, cats, birs and such. I voted up, useful, awesome, beautiful and interesting. YOU are a fantastic writer, Danielle. And I am so glad to have met you on hubs. I invite you to visit my hub collection and see if you enjoy my takes on life. Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town, Hamilton, in northwest Alabama that looks a lot like Mayberry, the sweet town on the Andy Griffith Show. Much peace and happiness to you is my prayer.
This is amazing. I am going through a huge life change right now and I started with a hawk and then I wanted to know about myself and found that the wolf coincides with my birthdate. Its interesting to see that the wolf is about teaching. Thats one of the things I love to do most is teach. But I guess im a little afraid and dont know what to teach. Ill have to look at the raven then and maybe it can help show me a path. or maybe I neex to find my own. I guess im just a little lost right now
i have found the wolf,or should i say the wolf found me. I think alot of people are missing the point of a spirit guide. these animals choose you or are around you and you dont even realize they are there, or you pay no attention to them due to lifes issues. we humans are programed and we ignore whats right in front of us all along. since i was a kid i was always facinated with wolves. i never knew the meaning or nature of the wolf, but i knew there was a connection.i like alot of different animals but the wolf is the one that was with me all my life. I meditated for days trying to figure out what my spirit animal was, and after days it hit me like a ton of bricks. the wolf came to me time and time again. after knowing the wolf was my guide i read what the wolf stood for and not to sound like some spiritual know it all, but it was dead on. i have been guided by the wolf in several life situations and i have never been let down. my advice for newcomers looking to spirit guides, look right in front of you. and though you might love all animals there will be that one animal that will make you feel like your connected.
I have always wondered what my guide was, and if I could even have one since I don't know if i have native background. Though this morning I prayed and I have a strong feeling that my guide has always been with me and is infact a wolf. Though I don't know his actual name, I call him roan, and if that is his name than awesome heh, after reading this, I realized that my guide has to be a wolf because many of what I read, describes me. I am very defensive and need help learning not to be so possessive, hopefully my guide will help me with that as stated in your article
